GT’s Gamer Babe Interview #1: Lacey Gilleran

Ahhh, the wondrous and elusive nature of hot gamer girls.  Some say they don’t exist.  That they’re nothing but a myth.  A fairy tale, told by geeky fathers to their nerdy sons, in the hopes that one day, their socially inept offspring will walk down the aisle with that special girl who pwn’d him back in the college dorms to be pronounced Plumber and Peach.  A pipe dream, they say.

Well, I’m here to prove otherwise.  The hot gamer girl does exist.  She walks among us, sniping us in the head and Hadouken’ing her way into our hearts, leaving us breathless and in tears as she walks away with our spinal columns in her grasp.

This is GT’s Gamer Babe of the Week, a feature where I, your humble gaming host, will [hopefully] manage to interview one hot gamer babe per week for the enjoyment and education of my fellow gaming gentlemen.  Do you pwn her?  Or do you allow her to pwn you?  Do you pull out your joystick on the first date?  Or do you sit back and enjoy watching her play by herself for a while?  So many questions!  So few answers!

Well, we’re here to fix all that, but I’ve rambled long enough, and 99% of you haven’t even read a word of this anyway.  So without further ado, allow me to introduce…

Lacey Gilleran

~~~~
I had the good fortune of meeting Lacey in the blog section of 1UP.com, an oft referenced site here on The Gamer’s Thumb.  We talked a good bit, hit it off, and before you know it, she was interviewing me for her gaming web show, QuickieTV.
Lacey is no stranger to being in front of the camera, but if her interview with me is any indication, I’m not quite so comfortable being in the spotlight.  So, instead of video chatting her, she agreed to be interviewed via Gchat.  And here’s how it all went down:
Gamer’s Thumb: Hey, Lacey!
Lacey: Hey!
GT: Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for me.
Lacey: No problem.
GT: Alright, let’s get this going.  What are you currently playing right now?
Lacey: More like ALWAYS PLAYING!  Halo 3 or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
GT: Would you mind sharing your gamertag?  If not that’s fine.  Don’t want any creepers givin’ you trouble, y’know?
Lacey: lacegirl
GT: Well alright then.  What is your favorite game thus far this generation of gaming and why?
Lacey: It’s no secret I am a huge Halo 3 fan.  Give me a round of Slayer on Narrows or Guardian and I will show you how it’s done. I enjoy 1st person shooters and any chance that I can be MVP (which is always), I’m there. Plus, what girl doesn’t like to show up all her guy friends and annoying 7 year-olds on Xbox Live? Yeah, that’s what I thought.
Player 1: Yer doin' it wrong
GT: How about your favorite game of all time?
Lacey: Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for SEGA.  It was the first video game I was obsessed with. The music and how every level had a sweet theme just made me fall in love. I guess you can say my addiction just grew from there.
GT: Most people say that, these days, the Sonic franchise is simply a lost cause. Do you think SEGA will ever manage to recapture the magic of the original handful of Sonic games, whether it be in 3D, 3D characters on a 2D plain, etc?
Lacey: I feel with Sonic that nothing will be as good as the original. Maybe it’s ’cause I’m a little biased since I loved the old SEGA, but I just think they are trying to include him in other games now. They should go back to square one and realize people love the original games best.  From there, they can rework and make a Sonic that people will go crazy for.
GT: Kind of like what Sonic 4 looked like it was shaping up to be?
Lacey: Exactly.  As long as there aren’t levels in it like Metropolis. I hated that level.
GT: I feel you on that one.  I was never really any good at Sonic games, sadly.  But let’s see.  Let’s talk about you, your gaming and your guys.  If a guy you were dating let you win at a game (assuming he had the capacity to beat you in the first place), and it was blatantly obvious, would that be a deal breaker for you?
Lacey: Oh hell yes! I hate that garbage! I don’t want you to let me win.  I want you to beat me so I can learn your skills and then own you.  I’ve had guys do that to me.  It offends me.
GT: So it’s safe to assume you will never put yourself out there as a princess to be swept away by your plumber in shining overalls, huh?
Lacey: Nope, I’m not Princess Peach.  I’m more of a Lara Croft or Samus.  Or a Chun-Li.
GT: I’m down with the bad-ass chick, for sure.
Lacey: I’m glad.  Every guy should be.  Badass chicks are hotter anyway.
GT: Do you have any advice for the guys reading this interview?  Y’know, when it comes to winning your romantic attention?
Lacey:  Make me laugh. I have a great sense of humor and I love joking around. If you love nerdy internet jokes, you’re in. Also let’s face it – I’m a geek. So naturally, I’m attracted to other geeks. What can I say? Some girls like the bad boys, some like the pretty boys – I like the nerds.
GT: Would you ever date a guy who wasn’t a gamer?
Lacey: Hell no! GTFO! Would you ever date a girl without boobs?!
GT: Lol! Holy crap!  That’s an interesting way to put it.  But no, I guess I wouldn’t.
GT: Alright, last question.  I asked a variation of this question on 1UP a month or two back, but I’m going to tweak it for this interview.
Lacey: Ok.
GT: If you could meet any one video game guy and go on a date with him (date could mean…a bunch of different things) who would it be, and of course, why?
GT: Oh, wait! And Master Chief is off the table.  Gotta branch out a little here.
Lacey: $%^@!*&!!!
GT: Lol, sorry!
Lacey: Ok, well, years ago I had a huge crush on Sora from Kingdom Hearts.  But I feel like that’s cradle robbing now…
GT: Interesting.  I was not expecting that.  Well, who knows how old he’ll be in Kingdom Hearts III?  He may be just right.  Hell, everyone knows it’s been long enough between games for him to be our age…
Lacey: Yeah, I know! I beat 1 and 2…where the hell is number 3?!  Perhaps he’ll be old enough.  If so…then I guess him.  I would have to fight his girl, though.  She’s lame anyway.  All she did was whine all the time.
GT: I think Kairi would totally bite it if she had to face off against you.
Sexy ref: Yer doin'...You're...doin'....it...d'uhhhh....what was I talking about?
Lacey:  Although, I’m also a huge Link fan.  Something about those green tights and blonde hair.
GT: *opens a new browser window to look for a sale on green tights*
Lacey: Lol!  Cloud was hot, too… I guess there are way more than I can say.
GT: Well, I guess 3 is close enough to 1, huh?
Lacey: Lol!
GT: Well hey, I appreciate you takin’ the time to talk with me again.  It’s been fun!
Lacey: No problem!
GT: Thanks for the chat, and I’ll see you around the 1UP blogs.
Lacey: Sure! I’ll see you later!
    For somebody who calls herself a hardcore gamer, there certainly were a lot of casual titles mentioned here.
    Not sure what’s up with all the animosity, man. Most dudes would be thrilled to have a girl to game with, pretty much no matter what the game.
    And hardcore gaming doesn’t just mean you play all the hardest, most unforgiving games. Some people play every non-casual game they can possibly get their hands on (myself) and some others are content to get really freakin’ good at a smaller handful of titles (like Lacey).
    Regardless, it’s hard enough for a girl to be taken seriously in the world of gaming dominated by dudes, and posts like this don’t help that situation at all. Try to help out here, don’t be a part of the problem.
  8. [...] Another area I am hoping to grow is the Gamer Babe of the Week entry.  Do you know any hot gamer babes, or are you a hot gamer babe yourself?  Would you like to be in the limelight of the site every Friday?  If so, I would love to interview you, chat with you and ask what it’s like to be a girl in the world of video games where most guys are either too immature or too intimidated to approach you in any capacity.  Obviously, pictures must be provided.  Here is an example: Lacey Gilleran. [...]
    Thats harsh dude. The title of the article was gamer babe of the week, not hardcore gamer babe of the week, and all this “hardcore” crap is retarded anyway. I love playing games like Metroid Prime or Zelda or Metal Gear or Final Fantasy….I guess those games aren’t “hardcore”? Its all about the love of playing games, not which ones you play (unless, of course, you’re favorite games are the Harvest Moon’s or M&M’s Beach Party’s of the world etc.) Harsh comment dude (or dudette)
      Metal Gear is hardcore as fuck. So is Metal Gear Solid. So is Metal Gear 2, MGS2, 3, and 4 – Peacewalker too.
      My point is that I lived in the same town and went to the same school as this girl and I’m calling bullshit. Playing COD and Halo3 does not a gamer make, it means you’re just like anyone else (including the fratboy types that call nerds faggots all the time and go home and play halo 3 because “it’s not some gay shit, masterchief YEAAAAH!”). What defines a gamer as precisely that is someone that has played, is playing, and will play whatever the fuck because they love videogames. Shit, I hate JRPGs but I’ll play them sure as hell – and wouldn’t you know games like shining tears and shining soul appeal to me on the level that Diablo and Diablo2 did (Calling it ahead of time – Diablo 3 will be an epic shitfest, I don’t need no air biscuits instead of potions).
      You know what game I really enjoyed recently? Heavy Rain. You know what game I am about to start and am terrified of? Demons Souls. You know what game I haven’t even bothered picking up because I know exactly what to expect? Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2.
        Ok, dude, look. I let this last comment out. This is less about White Knighting and more about tryin’ to keep this site confrontation-free in its early days.
        I’m trying to get some followers and readers here, and it doesn’t help having comments that trash me, the interviewee, the other writers, etc.
        I’d like to have every comment and follower I can get, so can you try and be civil around here and not so in-your-face? I mean, debate is fine, but come on…
        I mean, the title of the blog isn’t ‘Hardcore Gamer Babe of the Week.’ Hell, I’m even gonna interview some lady friends of mine that only play Wii Games and download the old school NES, SNES and N64 titles. It’s not how hardcore they are, just that they play games and have fun doing it.
    I’m not trying to bust your balls, I’m just offended by the notion that just because a girl has played a few games she is automatically a gamer girl. You know, the base line of my motive here is feminist theory – there’s no reason women and men should be separated in terms of videogaming, and yet men seem to dominate the online gaming atmosphere much like they do the job market and pretty much everything else. I am offended by a woman’s sexuality being used as a tool to justify her value to the gaming community, you dig?
    Not trying to flame or troll, I’m trying to be straight up here – I don’t think making a sexualized “gamer girl” column is helping at all – especially considering that most of the mouth breather ‘ooh titties’ types of scary fucks that play a lot of games and don’t leave their homes.
    I want to see Lacey back up her gamer status with some real baller shit, not just “lol Halo’ and “COD BRO!” because let’s face it — everyone played sonic the hedgehog. Let’s talk about the innovation brought forth with sonic and knuckles? Maybe? I don’t know man, I’m really trying to be fair and at the same time call shit like I see it.
    Thank you every one for reading my interview! LOVE the support!
    As for the “hardcore” and “casual gamer” comments…I don’t think the game is what makes the gamer fit into either category. I spend hours playing games even if they just have a “casual title”, I think that’s what separates me from being just a casual gamer.
    Regardless, thank you so much for your feedback! It is much appreciated. I am always open to all comments- even criticism.
