Voice Actor Spotlight: Hellena Taylor

“Do you want to touch me?”

What’s better than a sexy, leggy, busty, bodacious, badass, British brunette Umbran witch? Well, not much, honestly. But the voice actress behind her is a very close second.

Hellena Taylor is probably the most professionally robust Voice Actor in this series of posts thus far. While she doesn’t have as long a gaming wrap sheet as some of the others, Hellena’s voice acting career extends far beyond  your typical nerd’s overused HD gaming console.

Taylor was born in Hammersmith, West London and spent her teenage years as a member of the Surrey Youth Theatre and National Youth Theatre of Great Britain.

Most of her credits come from theatre productions, but she also has a short list of TV shows and movies in which she has appeared. Furthermore, if you’ve ever gotten hot and bothered while listening to your sat-nav tell you to turn left, chances are, it’s because Hellena provided the sultry voice for it.

While she provided extra voices for the video game adaptations of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End and The Golden Compass, her most notable game roles are the female lead, Veronique Rousseau, in EA’s The Sabateur, and as the titular character in the over-the-top action title, Bayonetta, produced by SEGA.

As mentioned above, Hellena is a relative newcomer to the world of video game voice acting, and character voice acting in general. Besides Bayonetta, The Saboteur, Dragon Age and Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume, she has also lent her voice to nearly every aspect of the VA industry. Some may recognize her voice in the anime Read or Die as main protagonist Yomiko Readman, while others might have heard her narrate the trailers for The Golden Compass and Doomsday. Your kids may have heard her playful voice in a Leapfrog commercial, while patrons of Virgin Atlantic will have heard her informative, soothing in-flight voice. Commercials, announcements, narrations, voice matching, radio, etc. Hellena Taylor has done it all. And one can only pray to hear more of her in future game releases, most hopefully the announcement and release of Bayonetta 2.
