3DS Price Drop, 20 Free Games for Early Adopters

Sony responds: “OMGWTFBBQ?!?!”

Been holding out for that first big price drop to finally pick up Nintendo’s 3D handheld powerhouse? Well, looks like you didn’t have to wait that long at all. Nintendo has announced a price drop for its new 3DS in the US, Japan and Australia, with talks of a European price drop soon after.

On August 12th, you can expect to walk out the door with a shiny new 3DS for $169 in the States, $249.99 in Australia and ¥15,000 in Japan. That’s just 3 kinds of ridiculous…

"You know you want me now, don't you?"

Nintendo claims the price drop is to drive the momentum of the new system and prepare gamers for AAA titles coming later this year, like Star Fox 64 3D, Metal Gear Solid 3DS and Kid Icarus: Uprising.

But before you early adopters get all bent out of shape, Nintendo has also announced that you guys will be receiving 20 free downloadable NES and GBA games as a thank you for showing faith in the Big N’s hardware.

As per IGN, the games that early adopters receive will be among the following:

Super Mario Bros. , Donkey Kong Jr. , Balloon Fight , Ice Climber , The Legend of Zelda and 5 more undisclosed NES titles. In addition to the NES games, 10 Game Boy Advance titles will also be released, including, Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3
Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Metroid Fusion, WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$, Mario vs. Donkey Kong and five more undisclosed games.

The 10 GBA titles appear to be exclusively reserved for early adopters, as Nintendo explains it has no plans to release the titles to anyone beyond their Ambassadors. Tough break.

Those who already have a 3DS or plan on purchasing one before August 12th, simply log into the Nintendo eShop, and you will automatically be registered as an Early Adopting Ambassador to receive your 20 free games.

So what are you going to do? Wait for the price drop or buy now to get those 20 free games? Sound off below!
